PROCESS
01. Collaborate
Your brief is the starting point. We want to understand the product you have in mind, who it’s for, what it has to do, what it can’t cost to make, and where the hard constraints sit.
From the first call you speak directly with the engineer or designer leading your project. No account managers, no relayed briefs. We ask a lot of questions before committing to a direction, because the brief is the most important document in a product project.
02. Immerse
Before we put pen to paper, we research the market your product sits in: how competitors have approached the same problem, where they fell short, what users are actually asking for, and what manufacturing constraints apply to the category.
For new categories or hard technical problems, this stage also means benchmarking components, materials and processes, so our design decisions are grounded in what’s actually achievable.
03. Create
This is concept development, and we produce several directions, not one. Each comes with initial CAD exploration, early 3D visualisations and a clear rationale.
You review the draft , we discuss, you choose a direction to develop and we move towards further detailing the design.
04. Refine
The chosen concept gets built into detailed engineering CAD. We model every component, interface and assembly. Wall thicknesses are checked for the manufacturing process, snap-fits and fasteners are designed to spec, and tolerances are set for production, not just for prototyping.
This is also where FEA, DFM review and CMF decisions get resolved. A problem found here costs an afternoon of engineer time. The same problem found after tooling costs far more.
05. Deliver
When the CAD is signed off and the design is manufacture-ready, we prepare a full production package: detailed drawings, BOM, material specs and supplier-ready files. We work with Australian and international manufacturers depending on volume, cost targets and lead times.
We stay involved through tooling, first-article inspection and initial production runs. You get the product in hand, not just the files.
06. Support
Once your product is in production, we stay available. That might be design updates from early customer feedback, cost-reduction changes before a second run, or tooling tweaks to fix a manufacturing issue.
Product development doesn’t end at launch. Markets shift, costs change, and products need iteration. We handle that alongside you.

Do you offer end-to-end product design and development?
Yes. We can take a product from initial concept through industrial design, engineering, prototyping and DFM to a production-ready package and manufacturer handover. Because every discipline sits in one studio, you avoid the hand-offs and scope gaps that come with splitting a project across separate agencies.
Where is Oxta Design based, and do you work outside Sydney?
We’re based in Sydney and work with clients across Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and regional Australia, as well as internationally. Most projects run remotely, and we can meet in person in Sydney when it helps.
How much do product design services cost in Australia?
It depends on scope. A single service like a concept phase or a render set is a smaller engagement; full concept-to-production development is larger. We quote a fixed price after a briefing call rather than billing by the hour, so you know the cost before we start. Our pricing page has indicative ranges by service.
How long does product development take?
A focused single service can take a few weeks. A full development program, from concept through engineering to a manufacture-ready package, typically runs a few months depending on complexity and revision rounds. We set a timeline at kickoff so the milestones are clear up front.
Do I need finished designs or CAD to start?
No. Most clients come to us with an idea, a sketch, a prototype, or just a problem to solve. You don’t need finished designs or technical files. If you have a physical sample and no drawings, our reverse engineering service can rebuild the CAD from the part itself.
Does Oxta Design work with clients outside Sydney?
Yes. We’re based in Sydney but work with clients across Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, and regional Australia, as well as internationally. Most projects run entirely remotely. If you want a face-to-face session, we can arrange that in Sydney.
Who owns the intellectual property once the project is finished?
You do. Everything we produce, including files, drawings, renders, and documentation, belongs to you once the project is paid. We sign an NDA before any discussion begins and keep no rights to client work.
What industries does Oxta Design work across?
We’ve worked across consumer electronics, sports and outdoor gear, baby and childcare goods, medical devices, furniture, soft goods, enclosures, and packaging. The category doesn’t matter as much as the problem. If it’s a physical product that needs designing and manufacturing, we’re interested.
