About Oxta Design

A Sydney product design studio that takes ideas from first sketch to production line.

THE STUDIO IN ONE MINUTE

Oxta Design is an industrial and mechanical product design studio based in Sydney. Here is what that means in practice.

Design+  Engineer+  Prototype+  Test+  Deliver+

Oxta Design is a product design agency working with startups, inventors and manufacturers across Australia and overseas. We design consumer products, enclosures, mechanical systems, retail displays, tools and packaging, and we stay involved until the product comes off a production line.

The studio behind the products.

Oxta Design exists because of a gap we kept seeing. Design agencies hand over beautiful concepts that no factory can mould. Engineering firms produce solid CAD with no feel for the person who ends up holding the product. Clients get passed between the two, and something important falls through every handover.

So we built a studio where both jobs happen at the same desk. The people who shape a product here are product design engineers,  trained in industrial design, fluent in mechanical engineering, and experienced with the factories that eventually have to build the thing.

That mix shows up in the work. Clients come to us with a napkin sketch, a competitor product they think they can beat, or a part that keeps failing in the field. They leave with something a factory can quote, tool and build. Many of them come back with the next product, which tells you more about the studio than anything we could write here

WHY WORK WITH
OXTA DESIGN

Plenty of design agencies in Sydney sell you a project, then quietly outsource the CAD, the prototyping or both. You pay agency rates for work done by whoever was available that month, and every handover loses a little of the original intent.

At Oxta, the designer and the engineer sit in the same studio and work on the same model. When you ask a question, the person answering is the person doing the work.

A concept is only worth what it costs to manufacture. Every wall thickness, draft angle and fastener we specify has a real process behind it. Injection moulding, CNC machining, die casting, sheet metal or soft goods.

That is why our concepts survive contact with the factory. The design you approve is the design that gets built, not a prettier cousin of it.

Ask most Sydney design studios what a project costs and you’ll be invited to a workshop first. We publish our pricing and give you a fixed quote after one briefing call, so you can budget before you commit to anything.

If the numbers don’t work for your product, we say so early. A design fee is a bad trade for a product that can never hit its retail price.

You will not be handed to a junior after the pitch. The team that scopes your project is the team that delivers it, and clients consistently mention the same things in reviews: fast responses, honest advice, and work that arrives when promised.

That is easier to do at our size, and it’s why we’ve stayed a studio rather than growing into the kind of agency we set out to avoid.

From small tasks to lasting partnerships

Led by a team of experienced product design engineers, we design consumer products, enclosures, mechanical systems, retail displays, tools and packaging. Whether you're a startup with an invention, a manufacturer needing precise CAD, or a business with an idea and no roadmap, this is the studio that gets it built.

Most clients come to us with a problem, not a brief. Some have a sketch. Some have a sentence. Here is what we do with it.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Oxta Design.

Oxta Design is an industrial and mechanical product design studio based in Sydney, Australia. The studio takes products from idea to manufacture: industrial design, mechanical engineering, 3D CAD, prototyping and design for manufacture. Clients are startups, inventors and established businesses across Australia and overseas.

Both fit, depending on what you need. We work as a product design agency for clients who want end-to-end development, and as a design consultancy for businesses that need one specific capability, such as CAD modelling, mechanical drafting or DFM review. Either way, the same studio team does the work.

The studio is based in Sydney, NSW. Most projects run remotely, so we work with clients across Australia and internationally. Past clients include founders in the United States and Europe as well as Australian businesses.

Consumer products, enclosures for electronics, mechanical systems, retail displays, tools, packaging and soft goods. Recent projects include a wall-mounted UV sanitiser, a CNC-machined enclosure, a sheet-metal parfait maker and an orthopedic dog bed. See the projects page for the full portfolio.

Industrial design and concept ideation, new product development, mechanical engineering and CAD, rapid prototyping, design for manufacture, reverse engineering, mechanical drafting, product visualisation and soft goods design.

Three things clients point to. Design and engineering happen in one studio, so nothing gets lost between agencies. Our pricing is published, which is unusual in this industry. And you own every file at the end: CAD, drawings and renders, with no lock-in to us or any manufacturer.

Yes. We’re based in Sydney but work with clients across Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, and regional Australia, as well as internationally. Most projects run entirely remotely. If you want a face-to-face session, we can arrange that in Sydney.

No. Most of the studio’s clients work with us remotely, including founders overseas. Reviews, prototypes and drawings all move online, and physical prototypes ship to you for testing.

Send a message through the contact page or book a call. The first discussion is complimentary, we sign an NDA before you share anything sensitive, and you get a fixed quote before the project starts. You don’t need drawings or a technical brief, an idea is enough.
