Most first-time founders don’t fail because the idea was bad. They fail in the gap between the idea and the factory: a design that can’t be moulded, a prototype that costs triple what the retail price can carry, a supplier quote that means nothing because the drawings left everything open to interpretation.
We’ve taken enough products through that gap to know where it swallows people. So we run the whole journey under one roof. The industrial designer who shapes your product sits next to the mechanical engineer who makes it manufacturable, and the same team builds the prototype and prepares the production files.

Most product ideas get split across agencies. Design goes to one, engineering to another, prototyping to a third. Every handoff drops something: an intent that never made it into the CAD, a cost assumption nobody wrote down.
At Oxta the designer and the engineer work in the same studio, on the same model. Nothing gets translated across a gap, which is why our products reach production faster and closer to the original idea.

Ask most product development companies what your project will cost and you’ll get a workshop invitation. We publish our pricing and quote a fixed price after one briefing call. No hourly meter running while you wonder what the bill looks like.
We’ll also tell you early if the numbers don’t work. If your product can’t hit a retail price that survives manufacturing, freight and margin, you’ll hear it from us in week one, not after you’ve paid for a design.
We design for the factory, not the render.
A beautiful concept that can’t be moulded is a very expensive picture. Every wall thickness, draft angle and fastener we specify has a real manufacturing process behind it, across injection moulding, CNC machining, die casting, sheet metal and soft goods.
That means the design you fall in love with is the design that gets built. No “value engineering” round later that strips out everything that made it good.

You don’t need a brief, a patent or any technical background. Most of our clients are founders and inventors doing this for the first time, and the process is built around that: plain-English updates, physical prototypes you can hold, and honest advice at every gate about whether to keep spending.
We sign an NDA before you tell us anything. When the project ends, every file belongs to you, so you’re never locked to us or to any single manufacturer.

What is new product development?
New product development (NPD) is the full process of taking a product from idea to market: strategy, industrial design, engineering, prototyping, testing and manufacturing setup. At Oxta we run all of it under one roof, so you deal with one team from the first sketch to the first production run.
I have an idea but no design or drawings. Where do we start?
Start with a conversation, not a document. Most of our clients arrive with nothing more than an idea and a rough sense of who would buy it. The first stage is a feasibility review: we look at the market, the likely manufacturing cost and the technical risks, then give you a fixed quote for the design stage before you commit to anything.
How much does it cost to develop a new product in Australia?
A simple single-part product can move from idea to production-ready files for under $10,000. Most complete developments, covering design, engineering, prototyping and production documentation, land between $20,000 and $100,000 depending on complexity. Our pricing page has indicative ranges by stage, and we quote a fixed price after a briefing call.
How long does it take to develop a new product?
Concept and design typically take four to eight weeks. Engineering and prototyping add two to four months, and tooling for production runs eight to sixteen weeks on top. A realistic idea-to-market window for most consumer products is six to twelve months. We set milestone dates at kickoff so you always know where the project sits.
Do I need a patent before talking to a product development company?
No. We sign an NDA before any discussion, so your idea is protected from the first call. Many clients file a provisional patent during development, once the design is resolved enough to describe properly. Filing too early often means patenting a version of the product you won’t actually build. We’re not patent attorneys, but we can prepare the drawings and documentation your attorney needs.
Can you build a prototype of my idea?
Yes. Prototyping is a core part of our process, from quick 3D-printed studies to CNC-machined and soft-tooled prototypes that look and work like the finished product. See our rapid prototyping service for methods and timelines.
Who owns the design and intellectual property?
You do. Every CAD model, drawing, render and document belongs to you once the project is paid. We keep no rights to client work and you’re free to manufacture anywhere, with or without us.
Do you work with first-time inventors and startups?
Yes, they’re most of our client base. The process assumes no technical background: plain-English updates, physical prototypes at each stage, and honest gate reviews where we tell you whether the numbers still support taking the next step.
Can you help me get my product manufactured?
Yes. We prepare factory-ready drawing packs to AS 1100 standards, introduce you to suppliers and contract manufacturers we’ve worked with, review their quotes, and stay involved through tooling and first production samples. Our Design for Manufacture service covers this in detail.
