Aurora 65

At Oxta Design, we had the privilege of leading the design and development of the Aurora65 mechanical keyboard—a standout product for Odin Gaming that blends premium aesthetics with uncompromising performance. From initial concept sketches to manufacturing-ready CAD files, this project demonstrates our end-to-end capabilities in product design, mechanical engineering, and consumer electronics development.

Challenges & Objectives

Project Overview

The Aurora65 Mechanical Keyboard is a premium, compact 65% keyboard developed for Odin Gaming—a brand known for its high-performance gaming accessories. Oxta Design was brought in to lead the complete product development process: from early-stage concept ideation and industrial design to mechanical engineering, prototyping, and final production support.

This keyboard was not just about aesthetics. It had to meet the expectations of a demanding user base of gamers, typists, and keyboard enthusiasts who expect excellent acoustics, haptics, and build quality—all within a compact form factor.

Challenges

Designing a 65% mechanical keyboard that stood out in a saturated market came with unique technical and design challenges:

Acoustic & Tactile Performance: Achieving the signature “thock” sound and satisfying keystroke feel required advanced material tuning and precise mounting geometry.

Tight Tolerances: The CNC aluminium case, gasket mount, and internal components demanded highly accurate mechanical design for seamless assembly and consistent quality.

Compact Layout Constraints: Balancing ergonomics and functionality within a 65% layout meant rethinking traditional keyboard architecture.

Heat and Durability: Integrating components like RGB lighting and hotswap sockets without compromising thermal performance or long-term reliability.

Community Expectations: The keyboard had to resonate with a niche yet vocal audience that values customizability, modding potential, and flawless build.

Objectives

Our objectives were clear and ambitious:

  1. Design a standout 65% mechanical keyboard with a premium, minimal aesthetic.

  2. Engineer a robust internal structure to support a gasket-mounted system that absorbs vibrations and improves acoustics.

  3. Ensure manufacturability across multiple materials (aluminium, silicone, PCB, steel) while keeping production costs reasonable.

  4. Deliver a product that feels as good as it looks, offering a high-end experience out of the box.

  5. Support Odin Gaming’s growth in the competitive mechanical keyboard market with a flagship product that would elevate their brand.

Final Outcome

The final product—the Aurora65—was a massive success, both technically and commercially. Oxta Design delivered:

  • A sleek, low-profile CNC aluminium case with flawless surface finishing

  • A finely tuned gasket-mounted system that dramatically improved typing acoustics and feel

  • Internal engineering to house hotswap PCBs, RGB lighting, and modular components with ease

  • A product that won praise from the mechanical keyboard community and became a key launchpad for Odin Gaming’s product expansion

The Aurora65 demonstrates what happens when smart design, precise engineering, and deep product-market understanding come together. For Odin Gaming, it wasn’t just another keyboard—it was a brand-defining product.
